Gamification and game leaderboard

Visibility of the leaderboard in the games

You’ll be able to decide which type of leaderboard you want the students to be shown during the game. You can also establish a default leaderboard for the whole account, i.e. for all your classes.

To configure the leaderboard for all your classes, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your profile initial, found in the top right corner.
  2. Select the “My Account” option.
  3. Click on “Settings”.
  4. In “Student Leaderboard” you’ll find the available options.
  5. Select the option you want and save the changes.

In the drop-down menu, you’ll always find the following three visibility options:

  • Show students’ names: this option allows all participants in the class to see each other and their position in the game, including first and last names. This is the most recommended option to boost engagement and competitiveness.
  • Hide students’ names: this option means students will be able to see the positions during the game, but they won’t know who occupies which position in the leaderboard (the data will be pixelated).
  • Show students’ aliases: this option means that students in the class will see the leaderboard and the positions of each student, but only the aliases they’ve chosen, and not their real names.
ℹ️ Remember that this option will only be effective on new classes when modifying the leaderboard settings for the entire account (no retroactive effect).

Leaderboard ranking criteria in the games

The order on the leaderboard within a course is determined by two main criteria:

  • Points earned: participants with the highest number of accumulated points will obtain the first positions on the leaderboard.

In the event of a tie:

  • Time to finish the course: among participants with the same number of points, those who have finished the course in less time will obtain a better position on the leaderboard.

*The Triskelion, Pacific, Mars, Merchants, and 2100 courses use a different leaderboard system. For specific ranking criteria for these courses, please visit our student support page: support.game-learn.com
